With the 74th NATA Clinical Symposia & AT Expo taking place June 21-24 in Indianapolis, now is a great time to create your schedule and plan of action. While you can use the NATA convention website to determine which sessions you want to attend, don’t forget to add places to eat and things to do to your itinerary.
To help members plan their visits, local ATs are sharing with the NATA Now blog their favorite restaurants and can’t-miss places to visit while in Indy. You can also check out the Visit Indy webpage to learn more what the area has to offer.
Don’t forget: There’s still time to register to attend the largest gathering of athletic trainers worldwide.
In this blog post, Fabian Munoz, MA, LAT, ATC, shares his recommendations of where to eat and things to do while in Indy for NATA 2023. An athletic trainer in the collegiate setting, Munoz made Indy his permanent home in January 2021. Keep reading to learn more from Munoz.
Restaurants
Brozinni Pizzeria: Serves New York-style pizza and the best pizza in Indiana, in my opinion. Very close to the Indianapolis Motor Speedway.
Watami: A sushi restaurant in Broad Ripple that has all-you-can-eat sushi.
Taqueria Vargas #1: My favorite Mexican street tacos in all of Indianapolis.
Bynum’s Steakhouse: Amazing steakhouse on Indy’s south side if you want something other than St. Elmo’s or Ruth Chris.
Bub’s Burgers: This one is in Carmel, but if you are on the north side of Indy, this is a must stop.
Fat Dan’s Deli: A Chicago-style deli. I’ve never ordered anything there I did not like.
Havana Café: A small Cuban restaurant off 38th Street on the west side. If you go here. I recommend the vaca frita or ropa vieja.
El Puerto De San Blas: A Mexican seafood restaurant. Very authentic and always busy.
Things To Do
Eagle Creek Reservoir: Features hiking/biking trails. It has a GoApe zip lining course, too.
Tibbs Drive-In Movie Theater
West Fork Distillery: A local whiskey distillery with tours and tastings.
16-Bit Arcade Bar: A very nostalgic arcade bar with more than 50 games.
Metazoa Brewing Co.: A local brewery that is very dog friendly, if you plan on traveling with your pets.
Bottleworks District/The Garage: This is a repurposed Coca Cola Bottling Co. in Indianapolis that has a hotel, food court, duck pin bowling, etc.
