By Rob Marshall, LAT, ATC, NATA Vice President and District Five Director

At the very core of NATA beats the steady, passionate rhythm of its volunteers. They are the lifeblood of our profession – fueling innovation, driving change and shaping the future of athletic training one meeting, one idea and one act of service at a time.
Throughout my years of involvement with NATA, I’ve had the privilege of serving on several volunteer groups alongside some of the most dedicated professionals I’ve ever met. I remember early in my career, nervously walking into my first committee meeting. I expected formality and hierarchy. What I found instead was a group of peers – seasoned experts and newcomers alike – united by a shared goal: to make our profession better. That experience not only shaped my professional path but deepened my commitment to giving back.
Volunteerism is more than a résumé builder. It’s where mentorships begin, leadership develops and meaningful change takes root. Whether it’s contributing to policy development, supporting groundbreaking initiatives or advancing clinical practice, every committee member plays a vital role in elevating athletic training.
For National Volunteer Month in April, NATA would like to especially highlight each of our individual volunteers on our councils, committees and commission. NATA offers a wide range of volunteer opportunities through its robust committee structure. These programs span across various facets of the profession, including:

If you’ve ever considered getting involved, now is the time. Whether you’re a student, young professional or seasoned veteran, there’s a place for you in NATA’s volunteer community. Your insights, experiences and passion can help shape the future of athletic training.
To those who have served or are currently serving – thank you. You are the heart of NATA.
