For the first time, the LGBTQ+ Advisory Committee will host a town hall meeting at 7 p.m. June 25 in Oceanside F.
One of the youngest committees in NATA, LGBTQ+AC was created to push the athletic training profession toward further inclusion and advocacy of diverse patient populations and athletic trainers of all sexual orientations, gender identities and gender expressions.
LGBTQ+AC serves as a guiding force behind one of the newest professional interests groups in NATA: Inclusion. Some of their work includes the curation of online resources that members can access to inspire compassionate care of patients and equal treatment of LGBTQ+ colleagues.
During tonight’s town hall meeting, attendees will hear a brief history of the committee, learn about each district’s major initiatives and have an opportunity to ask questions and network with attendees.
This two-hour meeting also includes a showcase of the education and advocacy initiatives of NATA News and posters created by members supporting a variety of topics meant to explore the experiences of LGBTQ+ ATs and patients.
The LGBTQ+AC Town Hall will begin with ground rules, ensuring it is a safe space for attendees to share new developments, experiences and curiosity about a variety of topics. This will be followed by an introduction of the LGBTQ+AC committee members and NATA staff.
Mingle with peers and stay abreast of new initiatives within LGBTQ+AC during the inaugural town hall.
In addition, throughout the NATA convention, there will be several other networking opportunities hosted by various committees and organizations. You can find each networking opportunity offered during NATA 2019 within the “Full Schedule” section of the NATA Events app. Here are a few to attend:
