To obtain the Certified-Retired status, a member must:
- Be a Certified Athletic Trainer in good standing with the BOC and NATA at the time of the request to change membership categories;
- Have at least 20 years of NATA membership;
- Inform the BOC in writing that s/he wants to resign his/her credential at:

- Agree not to practice Athletic Training
With the Certified-Retired membership category members may vote on NATA association matters, receive complimentary membership dues and convention registration however with this status a member does not receive CEUs.
To obtain the Associate Retired status, a member must:
- Be an athletic trainer in good standing with your State Regulatory Board and the NATA at the time of the request to change membership categories
- Have at least 20 years of NATA membership
- Inform State Regulatory Board that s/he wants to resign his/her licensure and forward a copy of letter received confirming resignation to NATA at membership@nata.org
- Agree not to practice athletic training
With the Associate Retired membership category members receive complimentary membership dues and convention registration however with this status a member does not receive CEUs.
