Cultural Practices and the Impact of Vitamin D on Health and Performance in the Secondary School Setting

This course discusses vitamin D and the impact of deficiency within ethnically diverse patients. It also reviews the sources and benefits of vitamin D, identifies the latest research and explores ways to integrate vitamin D in the secondary school setting. It discusses culture, tradition and religion, and their impact on athletic training practices. It identifies appropriate behavior and expectations when working with student athletes and coaches who identify as “fa’afafine,” a term unique to the Samoan culture referring to men who are raised and identify as women, and means “in the way of a woman,” according to the Beautiful Samoa website.
