DALLAS, July 20, 2016 – The National Athletic Trainers’ Association (NATA) has announced that two current board members will take on new leadership roles. The board of directors elected Tory R. Lindley, MA, ATC, as vice president, and Timothy S. Weston, MEd, ATC, was appointed by President Scott Sailor, EdD, ATC, to the position of secretary/treasurer. They will replace MaryBeth Horodyski, EdD, ATC, FNATA, and Kathy Dieringer, EdD, ATC, LAT, who served in these roles and completed their board terms in June.
“Tory and Westy have shown great commitment and strategic vision and we are excited to increase their responsibilities as we move into the next year, said Sailor. “Both have played a critical role in advancing NATA’s strategic plan, and we know they will continue to champion our members and the association at large.”
Tory R. Lindley, MA, ATC
Lindley has worked in the collegiate setting throughout his 23-year career. He currently serves as associate athletic director, director of athletic training services and head athletic trainer at Northwestern (Illinois) University, where he has worked since 2002. He had previously served as head athletic trainer at Eastern Michigan and Hamline (Minnesota) University; and as staff athletic trainer at Michigan State.
A former district director for the Great Lakes Athletic Trainers’ Association (GLATA), Lindley was the recipient of the 2012 Illinois Athletic Trainers Association Hall of Fame and the 2012 NATA Most Distinguished Athletic Trainer Award. This past March, he received the GLATA Golden Pinnacle Award, the district associations’ highest honor.
He was also recognized as the 2012 Division I Head Athletic Trainer of the Year. He is currently an associate editor for the journal, Athletic Training & Sports Health Care and is the NATA liaison to the Commission on Accreditation of Athletic Training Education.
A former president of the Great Lakes Athletic Trainers’ Association and the Illinois Athletic Trainers’ Association, Lindley received his Bachelor of Science in education with a specialization in athletic training from Michigan State and his Master of Arts in biomechanics from the University of Minnesota. Lindley has been an NATA board member since 2014.
Timothy S. Weston, MEd, ATC
Weston is now entering his eighth year as head athletic trainer at Colby College in Maine and has been a member of its sports medicine staff since 1992. He was previously assistant athletic trainer at the school. He is currently serving on the supervisor management team and the quality/risk management committee for the Health Services department at Colby and the board of directors and development chair for the Maine Concussion Management Initiative.
His primary responsibilities at Colby include medical coverage for women’s soccer, men’s and women’s swimming, women’s basketball, baseball and crew. He was medical coordinator and head athletic trainer for the National Youth Sports Program at the University of Maine at Orono for two years and was the head athletic trainer for Colby’s soccer camp from 1996 to 2014.
A former president, vice president and treasurer of the Maine Athletic Trainers’ Association (MATA), Weston is currently on the Eastern Athletic Trainers’ Association executive board and previously served on the NATA Political Action Committee board of directors. He has received NATA’s Service Award along with the MATA “Bill Cox” Service Award and was recently inducted into the MATA Hall of Fame.
Weston received his Bachelor of Science in physical education and Masters of Education in educational leadership from the University of Maine at Orono. He has been an NATA board member since 2014.
NATA is divided into 10 geographic districts. District One, which Weston leads, covers Connecticut, New Hampshire, Maine, Massachusetts, Rhode Island and Vermont; District Four which is championed by Lindley, includes Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, Minnesota, Ohio and Wisconsin.
