Indiana

 898 IAC-1-1-9 "'Supervision' means daily personal verbal contact at the site of supervision between the athletic training student and the supervising athletic trainer who is certified by BOC and who plans, directs, advises, and evaluates the student's athletic training experience. IAC-1-4-1.b "An athletic trainer who is supervising an athletic training student's education experiences shall afford supervision adequate to assure (following stated written and verbal direction) that the student performs his or her tasks in a manner consistent with IC 25-1-9, IC 25-5.1, and this title. An athletic trainer who is supervising an athletic training student must be recognized as an athletic trainer at the setting where the athletic training student is attaining athletic training experience hours. The supervising athletic trainer must maintain a record of each student's experiential hours.

Iowa

152-D-4.1 "Students of athletic training who practice athletic training under the supervision of a licensed athletic trainer in connection with the regular course instruction at a school providing athletic training instruction."

Kansas

100-69-2. Clinical experience. (a) An applicant for registration as an athletic trainer shall provide proof of satisfactory completion of clinical experience as follows: (1) If the applicant meets the educational requirements set forth in K.A.R. 100-69-1(a)(1) or (2), the applicant shall have completed, in at least two years, 800 hours of athletic training experience in settings associated with the approved program and under the supervision of either an athletic trainer registered by the board or an athletic trainer who met the requirements for registration in this state at the time the supervision was provided. (2) If the applicant meets the educational requirements set forth in K.A.R. 100-69-1(a)(3), the applicant shall have completed, in at least two years and at most five years, 1500 hours of athletic training experience under the supervision of either an athletic trainer registered by the board or an athletic trainer who met the requirements for registration in this state at the time the supervision was provided. One thousand of these hours shall have been completed at the interscholastic, intercollegiate or professional sports level.

Ohio

4755-46-02 Student Athletic Trainer
(A) The athletic training student is an unlicensed person. However, in accordance with division (A) (3) of section 4755.65 of the revised code if any person is pursuing a course of study leading to a degree or certificate in athletic training in an accredited or approved post secondary educational program and if the activities and services constitute a part of a supervised course of study and if the person is designated by a title which clearly indicates his/her status as a student or trainee, the person shall be exempt from this rule.
(B) A student athletic trainer can only be supervised by a licensed athletic trainer. The supervising athletic trainer is responsible for planning, directing, advising, and evaluating the student's athletic training experience. Supervision involves daily personal, verbal contact at the site of supervision.
(C) Any documentation written by a student athletic trainer must be countersigned by the supervising athletic trainer. Documentation written by a student athletic trainer must be followed by a title which indicates that he/she is a student. High school student aides are unlicensed persons as defined under rule 4755-46-01 of the Administrative Code.
(D) High school students are not "student athletic trainers," as the term is defined under paragraph (a) of rule 4755-46-02 of the Administrative Code. "Student athletic trainer" is defined to mean a person pursuing a degree or certificate in athletic training in a post secondary education program. As unlicensed persons, high school students must abide by the guidelines established for unlicensed persons. High school students should be referred to as "student aides."

63-24-103 (a) No person shall represent themselves or claim to be an athletic trainer or perform, for compensation, any of the activities of an athletic trainer as defined in this chapter without first obtaining a license under this chapter.

63-24-103 (b) Nothing in this chapter shall be construed to prevent any person from serving as a student-trainer, or any similar position if such service is not primarily for compensation and is carried out under the supervision of an athletic trainer duly licensed as defined in this chapter and a physician licensed under this title. Such supervision will be provided under the guidelines of the National Athletic Trainers' Association (NATA) Board of Certification, Inc., and/or approved by the board.

Texas

313.6 "Student Trainer Activities. A student trainer may perform the activities of an athletic trainer only under the following circumstances:
(1) A student shall be considered to be performing the activities of an athletic trainer under the Texas Civil Statutes and not in violation of the act if the student is performing the activities:
(A) As part of the apprenticeship hours described in 313.5 this title or;
(B) As follows:
(i) The student's supervising college or university licensed athletic trainer has approved, referred, sent, or directed the student to a setting other than with the student's school's intercollegiate athlete's;
(ii) The setting is with another college or university, a high school, a professional athletic team, or a health care clinic; and
(iii) The student is directly supervised by in the setting by a licensed athletic trainer.
