CUATC Award Criteria


Winners 2005-2009

The CUATC wishes to recognize those collegiate athletic trainers who have demonstrated exceptional performance as an athletic trainer. All awards to be presented at the annual NATA symposium during a CUATC-sponsored event.


AWARD OVERVIEW


A winner for each award will be named for the following collegiate divisions (8 total awards):


Head Athletic Trainer - NCAA Division 1
Head Athletic Trainer - NCAA Division 2
Head Athletic Trainer - NCAA Division 3
Head Athletic Trainer - NAIA
Head Athletic Trainer - Junior College/Community College
Assistant Athletic Trainer of Year – (sole winner can come from within any collegiate division)
Above and Beyond Award - (sole winner can come from within any collegiate division)
New Horizon Award - (sole winner can come from within any collegiate division)

ELIGIBILITY


  1. All winners must be members of the NATA.

  2. Former winners are ineligible to receive the same award more than once in a three-year period. For example, a 2007 Head Athletic Trainer of the Year winner can be nominated for the Above & Beyond award anytime, but may not be considered for Head Athletic Trainer of the Year until 2010 at the earliest.

CRITERIA


Head Athletic Trainer


  • Must be BOC-certified, employed full-time and currently employed in a collegiate setting.

  • Minimum of 15 years college experience (Does not include undergraduate experience or graduate assistantship. Employment for college experience does not have to be continuous at the same institution.)

  • Minimum of 75% of current job responsibility involves primary/direct coverage and care of collegiate athletes.

  • Must have a minimum of 5 years experience as Head Athletic Trainer and must currently be employed with the position/title of Head Athletic Trainer (This also includes those with the title Associate or Assistant Head Athletic Trainer, Director of Sports Medicine, Director of Athletic Training Services, Asst. Athletic Director/Head Athletic Trainer)

  • Actively involved in: local community/campus or volunteer service, national/district or state athletic training associations, promotion of athletic training and exceptional athletic training performance (single or multiple acts that may distinguish the athletic trainer).

Assistant Athletic Trainer


  • Must be BOC-certified, employed full-time and currently employed in a collegiate setting.

  • Minimum of 7 years college experience (Does not include undergraduate experience or graduate assistantship. Employment for college experience does not have to be continuous at the same institution.)

  • Minimum of 75% of current job responsibility involves primary/direct coverage and care of collegiate athletes.

  • Must currently be employed with the position/title of Assistant Athletic Trainer (or similar).

  • Actively involved in: local community/campus or volunteer service, national/district or state athletic training associations, promotion of athletic training and exceptional athletic training performance (single or multiple acts that may distinguish the athletic trainer).

Above and Beyond Award


  • Must be BOC-certified

  • Minimum of 75% of current employment responsibility involved primary/direct coverage and care of collegiate athletes.

  • Employed as an athletic trainer in the collegiate setting as either the head or assistant athletic trainer, graduate assistant or intern athletic trainer position

  • Exceptional performance in athletic training or non-athletic training activities occurring within 1 year of the date of the award (Does not have to be health care related).
    For example: Administering life-saving measures (CPR, AED, etc.) Developing a major program or initiative at school or workplace Service projects that have a lasting impact on the community

New Horizon Award


  • Must be BOC-certified, full-time employment in a collegiate setting.

  • Minimum of 75% of current employment responsibility involved primary/direct coverage and care of collegiate athletes.

  • Minimum of 3 years college experience (Does not include undergraduate experience or graduate assistantship. Employment for college experience does not have to be continuous at the same institution.)

  • Minimum of 75% of current job responsibility involves primary/direct coverage and care of collegiate athletes.

  • Actively involved in: local community/campus or volunteer service, national/district or state athletic training associations, promotion of athletic training and exceptional athletic training performance (single or multiple acts that may distinguish the athletic trainer).

  • Demonstrates the attributes of a future leader in the athletic training profession.

 

DEADLINE


All completed nomination forms must be received by the NATA national office on or before March 1. Forms may be submitted by US Mail, e-mail (rachaelo@nata.org or fax (214) 637-2206

SELECTION


All winners will be selected by vote of the NATA College/University Athletic Trainers’ Committee. Athletic trainers submitting nominations will be notified when their submissions are received. Athletic Trainers nominated will be notified of their name being placed into nomination and the outcome of the selection process.
